Hand-In-Hand Program Description
Our Hand in Hand programs are designed for parents and their infant or toddler to experience school together once a week. With the guidance of our classroom teachers, parents and children explore the many interesting and age appropriate activities together. Our teachers are dedicated to working with our youngest children while also being a resource to the parents. Their experience working with this age group provides parents with support and encourage as they move through the infant and toddler years.
There are two different programs for children of different age groups. Our Toddler Hand in Hand program has two age groups, 18 months to 23 months and 24 months and older. This class meets once per week from 9:00 – 11:30. This classroom experience incorporates many of the same activities we do in our preschool, but with the help and support of a parent or other adult caretaker. Some of the activities may include easel painting, blocks, dramatic play, gross motor play, art experience, books, play -dough table, and other interesting table toys. We are always changing the classroom around to keep it engaging and stimulating. Once everyone is done exploring there is a group circle time where everyone learns songs, movements and stories to do with each other, whether at home or out and about. The children and parents also get a time to explore our outdoor space with activities specifically for toddlers and parents With the additional assistance of a 2nd teacher, half of the parents will have a discussion group (on the playground) about various childhood topics with the classroom teachers while the other parents and a teacher engage with the children on the playground. Outside time is followed by snack time and a closing circle. As you can see there is a lot happening during the 2 1/2 hour class. This routine is a vital instrument in helping children transition into the preschool.
For our younger children, our Infant Hand in Hand class provides a wonderful class experience in two age groups, 8 months to 12 months and 13 months to 17 months old. This class meets once a week from either 9:15 until 10:00 or 10:45 to 11:30. This 45 minute weekly class experience provides many sensory, circle-time, motor skills activities and works on parents and babies getting to know one another. The activities change weekly and always have something that our youngest children at the preschool enjoy. Some of the activities include: musical instruments, puppets, water play, painting, climbing, parachute play and so much MORE!
What parents say about us
Weekday preschool has a fantastic yard. I have my MA in Early Childhood Education and have really struggled to find a preschool for my children. The yard reflects exactly how I want my children to spend their time–in sand, mud, water, learning through cooperative play, art, messy play, gross motor games, and problem solving. My favorite part is the mud kitchen, but I think my daughter loves the new trycicles! If you are looking for a preschool for your child, Weekday’s outdoor space is truly a must-see.
